The Madison County Farmer's Market is one of the oldest institutions still in business. The market started out in the basement of the Madison County Courthouse as early as 1814. The market has been moved many times over the years before the present building was constructed in 1984. Spaces at the end of the market building are provided for commercial vendors that buys and sells a variety of produce. The middle portion is set aside for produce farmers to sell their fresh fruits and vegetables. The Market's busy season begins in June. Corn, okra, tomatoes, and squash are the biggest crops but, you'll also find in abundance, fresh greens, beans, field peas and fresh fruits.

Guess theyre called pecks and half-pecks. Everything is well marked and large enough you dont need reading glasses. Prices: 16/bushel 8/half-bushel Small apples: 6/half-bushel Seconds or culls: 7/bushel You have to get them from the factory, which has a loading dock that makes it easy to load your vehicle, as the cashiers are ill informed of the price. They will try to sell you the small apples at 6/half bushel. Everyone is very pleasant. Two cashiers. They do a brisk business. You can buy by 10 bushels at a time. Didnt ask about any quantity price break."
